S6 Interschool Oral Practice – 7th January, 2026
On 7th January, 2026, the English Department jointly held a speaking practice with Yu Chun Keung Memorial College No.2 for the S6 students in preparation for their public examinations that will take place soon. The collaboration has given students from both schools a taste of mock speaking examinations by teaming up with candidates of different talent, broadening their horizons and fostering comradery amid the battles against the DSE challenge. The rewarding smiles of relief after confronting their nerves are the vivid testimonies of a lesson well taken by walking out of their comfort zone.
“This was a great opportunity to ‘battle’ against the non-Chinese speaking students in the oral practice. Despite all worries and scary expectations about them, we gave it a try to showcase all our interactional skills and ideas. After the practice, it was found that each of us had different strengths, such as eye contact, or attentive listening. Noticing our strengths, we have our confidence boosted after the practice.”

“We went to Yu Chun Keung Memorial College, No 2 for an inter-school oral practice. It was spectacular as I had the opportunity to meet new groupmates other than my classmates, which allowed me to gain a better understanding of what the actual DSE oral examination would be like. I interacted with both weaker and stronger students, which broadened my perspective. This activity allowed me to learn new strategies and vocabulary from the stronger students, as well as to facilitate the discussion and support the weaker students.”
S6 Rainbow Chau
“The oral practice has taught me that fluency is equally important as perfect grammar. By forcing myself to speak aloud, I improved my pronunciation and pace. It also challenged me to think in English rather than translating everything from my native language. This experience has significantly boosted my listening skills and helped me become a more proactive learner in my daily life.”
