Student Union— A Brief Overview

The Student Union of our school was established in 1979.
The objectives of the Union are to promote mutual love and care, as well as solidarity among students, and to serve the welfare of members, the school and the community at large.
The Union is an autonomous organization representing the whole body of student population in our school.
All students currently enrolled in the school (S.1-S.7) automatically serve as Full Members of the Union.

A Full Member shall be entitled to the following rights:
(1) To take part in all the activities run by the Union
(2) To be entitled to all the privileges of full membership
(3) To vote and to be voted at all the elections conducted by the Union

A Full Member shall be obliged to fulfill the following duties:
(1) To abide by the charter of the Union
(2) To pay the annual membership fee
The Union’s annual membership fee is $10, which is to be paid at the beginning of the school term.

  1. The Principal and Vice principals are the Honorable Advisors for the Union.
  2. Besides, three teachers are appointed by the school to be the tutors.
  3. The Committee is the organization being held responsible for enforcing all the affairs conducted by the Union.
  4. The Committee is formed by: 1 Chairlady, 1 Vice Chairlady and 2 persons-in-charge for the following areas, namely, secretarial, treasurer, recreation, academic affairs, general affairs, liaison and promotion.

The Student Union Election is held in October every year on a one-person-one-vote basis. Neither S.1 students nor S.5 and S.7 students can act as Committee members, since S.1 students lack experience and they are not familiar with our school while S.5 and S.7 students are not available to carry out duties throughout the year due to the need to sit public examinations.

Main duties and activities of the Student Union include:
(1) Assisting in organizing and carrying out students’ activities and services, for example, stationery purchase, newspaper subscription and publication of Student Union newsletters.
(2) Serving as a communication channel among the school, teachers and students, as well as conveying opinions of students via, for example, carrying out questionnaire studies and holding consultation meetings with the school.
(3) Promoting students’ welfare and assisting in problem solving.
